What is Liposuction in Virginia Beach?

Plastic Surgery | Liposuction | Virginia Beach

Liposuction surgery is a procedure that specifically targets fat cells - particularly those in problem areas such as the buttocks, hips, thighs, and stomach. Liposuction allows a skilled surgeon to sculpt and contour a specific area of your body with minimal risk, minimal discomfort and pleasant results.

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is the process of getting rid of unwanted fat from certain parts of the body. The most common areas include the upper thighs, tummy, the flanks and of course - love handles. Other areas that liposuction is effective on include ankles, arms, buttocks, the chin, hips, and knees.

Many men choose liposuction to correct enlarged breasts. It is important to mention that no method of liposuction should be thought of as a substitute for good nutrition and physical exercise. In short, liposuction can help to eliminate areas of stubborn fat that are not responding to traditional weight loss methods.

Liposuction is typically performed using local anesthesia by using a hand-held instrument call a cannula to vacuum or suck the fat cells that lie under the skin. By gently moving the cannula, fat cells are broken up and then sucked out with a vacuum or syringe and disposed of. The fat cells are removed and the area treated is recontoured, being careful to ensure that the skin and underlying tisse and muscle is disturbed as little as possible. This prevents disturbing nerves and blood vessels that supply supply the skin as well as firm, tighten and contour the treated areas. Dr Bounds is also careful to leave a minute layer of fat which prevents the cannula from getting too close to the surface of the skin. This is done to ensure that there is no rippling of the skin or other irregularities.

Liposuction is particularly well suited for people whose weight may be at or near normal. Hips and thighs can be slimmed; abdomens flattened; waists reshaped; double chins eliminated; knees shaped; and the fat deposits on arms permanently removed. Very often many different areas can be treated during a single operation.

Dr Bounds has over two decades of experience performing liposuction. His goal is to ensure that you safely achieve a natural appearance, to help improve your overall physical well-being and above all, make sure you feel great about your new look.

Most people that have 15 pounds of fat or less to lose are great candidates for most types of liposuction procedures. If you already enjoy a lifestyle of exercise and proper nutrition the results are typically better and last longer. A commonly healthy person will heal faster and will enjoy more benefits than a person that has other health conditions that may interfere with the healing process, such as diabetes or certain blood disorders.

You must understand that liposuction is not a short cut to losing weight. It's more about contouring your body parts and supplementing a healthy lifestyle, not replacing it.
