Nose Surgery at Plastic Surgery of Virginia Beach
Is Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty) right for You?
Rhinoplasty is a procedure which is normally performed to improve the appearance of the nose or to correct breathing problems. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of person's nose as well as modify its shape.
Rhinoplasty is often performed for reasons other than purely cosmetic. Quite often rhinoplasty is performed to correct a deviated septum. A deviated septum can cause breathing problems, post-nasal drip, snoring and chronic stuffiness.
Most plastic surgeons will not perform nose job surgery on teenagers until after their growth spurt, approximately age 14-15 for girls, a little later for boys.
Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty) Recovery
Typically, after nose surgery you should be able to return to work within seven days to two weeks, depending on the level of activity required for your job. You will wear a splint on your nose for seven to ten days and can typically expect bruising and swelling for ten to fourteen days. Any packing will be removed after a few days.
Aerobic activities, alcohol and steam baths may be restricted for several weeks.
