Miracle Makeovers dramatically change one's look but sometimes a simple change can make a great impact. Your ears are not only one of the most visible parts of your body but also very fashionable and make a major statement by how they look and what jewelry you wear.

Why Would You Need Ear surgery?

Whether your ears are too large or they stick out too far from your head, prominent ears are an easy target for teasing, jokes and ridicule. Otoplasty, also called ear surgery, is the surgical solution. Otoplasty sets prominent ears back closer to the head and reduces the size of large ears.

How many women do you know that have pulled down long earlobes or tears in their ears? Many women and men suffer from this problem as they wear jewelry to enhance their appearance. This may be due to the fact that they may wear earrings that are too heavy, hang low, or due to the pressure of their ear pressed against the telephone.

Torn earlobes can also occur from trauma. In other instances people who have put gauges or had large piercings in their ears may desire the holes to be closed. Tears of the earlobe can be generally repaired with good results. Because the earlobe contains no cartilage, risk of deformity from a blood clot or pressure injury to the ear lobe is minimized.

There are several different types of repairs that can be done, all in the office under local anesthesia and usually within an hour. The degree of your tear will determine the type of procedure you need. There is minimal discomfort after the earlobe repair. You may experience some sensitivity after surgery but after a few days it will go away. Stitches are removed in ten to fourteen days. You may re-pierce your ears after the repair has healed.

Other injuries to the external ear occur fairly frequently, and can leave a major deformity. Some of the more common ones include, laceration from glass or knives, bite injuries, cancer, frostbite and burns.
