Maybe you are a mom with a few children and finally back to your pre-pregnancy weight. But you can't help but notice that the skin, muscles and fat in your abdomen region sag. Or, maybe you've always wanted those flat, six-pack abs, and after months of countless sit-ups you realize it's just not happening. Did you lose a lot of weight and now want to eliminate that loose extra skin around your abdomen?

Sound like you? If so, you may want to consider a tummy tuck procedure. Although dieting and exercise can tone the abdominal muscles, they can't help remove that loose, sagging skin.

A tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure to remove the excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen. The underlying musculature of the abdominal wall is also tightened at that time. This procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. It can give you a tighter, firmer, flatter, stomach and thinner waist.

Are You a Good Candidate for Tummy Tuck surgery?

Both men and women can enjoy the benefits of a tummy tuck. However, you should understand that specific conditions determine who are ideal candidates, good candidates, and people who should seek a different approach to treatments.

The best candidates for a tummy tuck are individuals who are not obese and whose weight is stable. The surgery is particularly helpful to women whose abdominal muscles have been stretched by multiple pregnancies. Loss of skin elasticity, frequently found in older individuals and in people who have lost a substantial amount of weight, can also be greatly improved.

If you're considering a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), the process begins with the consultation. In assessing your overall health, and determining the extent of fat deposits in your abdominal region, a plan can be formulated to achieve the best result for you. At Plastic Surgery of Virginia Beach we will evaluate your situation and discuss your options regarding tummy tuck surgery.
